How the Get on Top of Your Emotions System came to be.
15 years ago, I was struggling with my own emotional breakdown.
I was tired all of the time but kept pushing myself to keep going. I tried to ignore how I felt and hoped it would just get better.
I was eating Ibuprofen daily because of constant headaches.
I didn’t want to do anything with others because it was a burden, and I just didn't feel happy and wasn’t having any fun… I thought I was ‘stressed out’ but at a certain point, I was truly depressed.
I was miserable, hopeless, and disconnected from others who probably cared about me, but I didn’t feel it. I knew this was a dangerous place to be. I decided things could not continue as they were. There I was feeling alone and hopeless, and I decided no more. I went to counseling for almost two years. (Yes, a counselor going to counseling!)
I became determined and I had to make decisions for myself, no more worrying about what others thought or wanted. I did go through a divorce as part of this process.
I began to take the steps to regain my emotional control. In my new home as a single mom, I continued to wake in the night having panic attacks. I knew I had to work to put a stop to that! I worked to change my defeatist thinking patterns. I put to use the knowledge and skills I knew from my training as a counselor. I took the steering wheel and got into the driver’s seat of my life!
This was a complete transformation for me, and my life improved significantly. I turned 40 that year and I trained for and completed a half marathon! I had always been a non-athlete and I did a half-marathon! I made decisions based on what I wanted which I had to discover. I handled money the way I wanted to, spending and saving the way I liked. I explored and developed hobbies. Today, those include kayaking, making wire-wrapped and soldered metal pendants, and building keepsake boxes with wood-burned designs.
From this experience, I wanted to help others who are distressed to overcome their overwhelming emotions to be able to live a happier life in the ways that they choose.
I tried the typical way to operate in the field of counseling:
Individual, 1:1 sessions limited by the time I had available outside of my 40 hour per week hospital job. I could only manage 3-4 sessions per week. Traditional weekly counseling involves processing and gaining insight. But there were so many skills I wanted my clients to learn, and I couldn’t cover it all. I wanted to offer more.
I started doing some online telehealth and realized that offering something online was the solution to being able to offer more. I developed a comprehensive online program that offers every component needed to gain control of overwhelming emotion. And I continue to work personally with each client.
I created the Get on Top of Your Emotions System.
It includes all of the components needed to manage emotion as a complete package.

Work at your own pace.
It is an effective use of time, effort and investment.
The learning and skills gained form a foundation for any further counseling.
Once learned, the concepts and skills should lead a person to be more confident in their ability to manage emotions.

I recommend to others: Continue to use the worksheets to get on top of your emotions.
I liked using the system because I could do the work from home or when I am on the road; flexibility was important for my busy schedule. It is a well-organized program, easy to use, and Lucretia was helpful and knowledgeable.
